50% ABV / 100 Proof
Nickname: Liquid Links
Barrels and Mashbill: Two, 4-year-old, sister barrels (i.e. consecutive barrel numbers or on the same rack) of MGP 21% rye.
Batch Notes: Our first batch of The Bond is a bourbon full of big flavors. Just like our first batch of The Bond: Eternal, these barrels were picked on a day it was quite frigid outside. After pulling samples, we cupped our hands around the bourbon for about five minutes in hopes of warming up the bourbon and coaxing some of the flavors out of hiding. When we tasted these barrels, I immediately pulled them to the side to use for our first batch. This bourbon has a delicate nose filled with notes of fresh orange, vanilla sweet cream, and a slight graininess. On the palate, this bourbon is a heavy hitter. Upon first taste, you’ll find prominent notes of marzipan, praline pecans, berry cobbler, before transitioning into a slightly tannic finish that tastes of sweet anise.
Nickname: Fourward Thinking
Barrels and Mashbill: Four barrels of 4-year-old MGP (75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malted barley) from the same run, including two sister barrels (#23-020 and #23-021).
Batch Notes: Spring had officially sprung whenever we picked these barrels. The weather was starting to warm up, and the barrel wood was slowly expanding to prepare for the lengthy summer heat in the bluegrass. To follow up Batch #1, we wanted to incorporate more barrels into the blend while still maintaining our distinct flavor profile. In Batch #2, you’ll find a bold nose with prominent notes of toasted grain, dulce de leche, and a bright citrus that cuts through the blend. As for the palate, this batch features a sweet oak, black cherries, and hazelnuts, before fading into a slightly smoky, refreshing, and short finish. We’ve been looking ahead to the future now that production of The Bond is in full-swing, hence the name “Fourward Thinking.” – LB
